Something good actually came from me attempting to muscle through my business earlier this year.

You see, when everyone was inspired and amped up sharing their New Year’s Resolutions at the beginning of the year, so was I. I had made a decision (that I have since left in the dust) that I was going to forget about writing and only focus on photography so I could make money doing it. After all, making money is what would bring happiness, right?! Wrong! It’s not that I couldn’t be happy making money through photography, but the issue was that seemed to be my sole focus and driving force. So instead of making steps forward in my business out of passion, I was making them based on what I thought I “should” be doing to make that moolah.

This resulted in me turning away anyone who wanted photos that was not an engaged couple or someone getting married… which left me a pretty limited market. In my craze, I actually did something awesome. I got up the courage and reached out to Shannon Mumm of Shannon Marie Photography and asked if she needed any help photographing weddings this wedding season. To my surprise and delight, she said yes and offered me a few dates to help her out!

I walked straight into my fear and it has been so rewarding. I had so many questions of worthiness and enough-ness that day and the following days seeing my work. When I shared that with my sister she reminded me that I was walking into my fear and what a big step that was. A reminder to all of us that we can do whatever we want, the world is limitless. Take chances, follow your heart and soul intuition, and do what you love- that is what will lead you to happiness.

I learned a lot, took notes on how I can improve for next time and am excited to continue on my photography journey– wherever it ends up taking me.

All photos are by me for Shannon Marie Photography.
